UNIT 5: BLOCK PARTIES

Block parties are outdoor street parties for people who live in the same street or city block.
They became popular in New York City in the USA during the 1970s when DJs  set their sound systems in the street, often using electricity from the street lights.
The origins of hip hop can be traced back to these block parties in New York.
